Pilgrim Library Christian Classics

About Pilgrim Library

Pilgrim Library gathers the great books of the faith — the church fathers, the reformers, the Puritans, the preachers of the revivals and the devotional writers — and makes them easy to read and to listen to today.

The texts are in the public domain, taken from careful editions such as the Christian Classics Ethereal Library and Project Gutenberg. We check each one, keep the author's words as they wrote them, and add only what helps a modern reader: clear typography, chapter divisions, and short explanations of old words and doctrines.

What you can do

964 books so far, 964 of them free. 71 are narrated by LibriVox volunteers and 73 have a Modernized version.

Narrated by real people, with read-along
Many books are read aloud by LibriVox volunteers, and the page follows the recording, highlighting each passage as it is read. Start listening from the page you're on.
Every book can be read aloud
Books without a recording are read in a natural voice, with a sleep timer and lock-screen controls in the app.
Modernized versions
Many classics also come in a Modernized version: the same book, sentence by sentence, in plain present-day English. Read the original, the modern version, or both side by side, and switch at any point.
Reading plans
Choose a book and the days you have, and get a portion for each day, with today's reading always at hand.
Reading groups
Read a book together: start a private group and invite friends, or join a book's public discussion. Members share a reading plan and their notes on each chapter.
Highlights, notes and bookmarks
Kept with your account, the same on your phone, your tablet and the web.
Old words and doctrines explained
Tap a theological term for a short explanation, and a Scripture reference to read the verse.
An AI reading companion
Ask about the passage you're reading: its meaning, its background, the words that puzzle you.
Online or offline
Read on this website, or offline in the app for iPhone, iPad and Android. Most books are free.
