Lectures on Revivals of Religion

Charles Grandison Finney (1792–1875) was an American evangelist and a leading figure of the Second Great Awakening. A lawyer converted in 1821, he led revivals across New York and New England with his 'new measures,' then became professor of theology and later president at Oberlin College in Ohio. Our library holds his Lectures on Revivals of Religion, his Memoirs, Lectures to Professing Christians, and Sermons on Gospel Themes.

About this book

Charles G. Finney's Lectures on Revivals of Religion grew out of the American revival movement and was published in 1835 to explain and defend it. Finney treats the nature of revivals, prayer, preaching, measures, hindrances, and the instruction of converts. Direct and systematic, the lectures remain a primary document for understanding both Finney's influence and the controversies surrounding his methods.
