Selected Sermons of George Whitefield

Selected Sermons of George Whitefield

George Whitefield (1714–1770) was an English Anglican evangelist and, with the Wesleys, a founder of Methodism. Converted at Oxford, he took to open-air preaching and crossed the Atlantic seven times, becoming the most famous preacher of the Great Awakening in Britain and America. Unlike Wesley he held Calvinistic views on election. Our library holds his Journals, his collected Works, and selections of his sermons.

About this book

These selected sermons present George Whitefield, the great itinerant evangelist of the eighteenth-century Great Awakening, preaching the new birth and salvation in Christ. Whitefield addresses sinners directly, urging repentance, faith, and a righteousness not their own, with the urgency that drew crowds in Britain and America. The collection preserves the voice of a preacher whose field sermons helped reshape evangelical Christianity.
