Charles Grandison Finney (1792–1875) was an American evangelist and a leading figure of the Second Great Awakening. A lawyer converted in 1821, he led revivals across New York and New England with his 'new measures,' then became professor of theology and later president at Oberlin College in Ohio. Our library holds his Lectures on Revivals of Religion, his Memoirs, Lectures to Professing Christians, and Sermons on Gospel Themes.

A searching sermon by Charles G. Finney, the American evangelist of the Second Great Awakening, on the words 'The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways.' Finney traces how a Christian slides backward inwardly long before any fall shows outwardly, and he presses the remedy of honest self-examination and renewed repentance. First published in 1875.
