Words of John Robinson

John Robinson (c. 1576–1625) was the English Separatist pastor of the congregation at Leiden in the Netherlands whose members became the Pilgrim Fathers of Plymouth Colony. A Cambridge scholar turned Separatist, he guided the exiles for over a decade; when part of the flock sailed on the Mayflower in 1620, Robinson remained with the rest, dying at Leiden in 1625. Our library holds a collection of his words and writings.

About this book

A small collection of the sayings and addresses of John Robinson, pastor of the Pilgrim congregation at Leiden and spiritual guide to the Plymouth settlers. Robinson's words show the moderate, Scripture-guided spirit of early Separatist Puritanism, counseling patience, unity, and openness to further light from God's Word. Published in 1625, the year of his death, they preserve an influential voice.
