Works of Dr. John Tillotson, Late Archbishop of Canterbury. Vol. 08.

John Tillotson (1630–1694) was an English Anglican clergyman who became Archbishop of Canterbury under William III in 1691. Earlier dean of St Paul's and a favorite preacher in London, he was admired for clear, reasonable, and practical preaching in the latitudinarian spirit of his age. His collected sermons, published in many volumes after his death, were read for more than a century as models of pulpit English.

About this book

The eighth volume of the collected works of John Tillotson, Archbishop of Canterbury, whose sermons were famous for their clarity, reasonableness, and plain good sense. The sermons in this portion of the works show his gift for making difficult truths plain without making them shallow. Tillotson's calm and lucid style set the pattern for English preaching for generations after him.
