Christ Altogether Lovely

Christ Altogether Lovely

John Flavel (c. 1627–1691) was an English Puritan minister at Dartmouth in Devon. Ejected from his pulpit in 1662, he continued to preach to his people as the law allowed, and suffered for it under the persecution of Nonconformists. His writings are models of clear, affectionate practical divinity; our library holds The Fountain of Life, The Method of Grace, The Saint Indeed, and his treatise on keeping the heart.

About this book

A sermon by John Flavel, the Puritan pastor of Dartmouth, on the words of Song of Solomon 5:16 — 'He is altogether lovely' — from the end of the seventeenth century. Flavel dwells on the excellence of Christ: His person, His offices, and His willingness to receive sinners. Warm and searching, it is Puritan preaching aimed directly at the heart.
