Adam Clarke (1762–1832) was an Irish Methodist preacher and biblical scholar. Largely self-taught in languages, he spent decades producing his great Commentary on the Bible, still consulted today, and served repeatedly as president of the Wesleyan Methodist Conference. Our library holds his work on entire sanctification, the doctrine at the heart of early Methodism, which he expounded and defended throughout his ministry.

Adam Clarke's account of entire sanctification, drawn from the Methodist Bible commentator's writings and published in 1832. Clarke explains what he understands by a heart cleansed from sin and filled with love to God, and answers objections brought against the doctrine from Scripture. A clear statement of the Wesleyan teaching by one of early Methodism's most learned voices.
