Dwight Lyman Moody (1837–1899) was an American evangelist who left a Chicago shoe business for full-time Christian work. Through YMCA service, his Chicago church, and revival campaigns with singer Ira Sankey across Britain and America, he became the best-known evangelist of his century. He founded schools at Northfield and the Chicago institute that bears his name; our library holds his Prevailing Prayer, Sovereign Grace, and other popular books.

D. L. Moody's anecdotes and illustrations gather the short stories, incidents, and comparisons the evangelist used to make gospel truth plain in preaching. Drawn largely from his revival work and observation of ordinary life, they illustrate sin, grace, prayer, conversion, death, and eternity. Preachers will find usable material here; other readers, a revealing glimpse of Moody's homely method.
