Sermons and Tracts by John Bradford

John Bradford (1510–1555) was an English Reformer and martyr of the Marian persecution. Converted through the ministry of Hugh Latimer, he became chaplain to Bishop Nicholas Ridley and a prebendary of St Paul's Cathedral, preaching widely for the Reformation. Under Queen Mary he was imprisoned in the Tower and burned at Smithfield on 1 July 1555. Our library holds his sermons, tracts, and godly meditations on prayer.

About this book

John Bradford's sermons and tracts preserve the voice of an English Reformer whose preaching ministry ended in martyrdom under Queen Mary. The writings join clear evangelical doctrine to repentance, prayer, and steadfastness under suffering, reflecting the concerns of a pastor who expected persecution. Read together, they introduce Bradford as both teacher of the early English Reformation and witness to its cost.
