Sermons Preached Upon Several Occasions. Vol. II.

Robert South (1634–1716) was an English Anglican clergyman famed for his preaching. Educated at Westminster and Oxford, he became public orator of the university, chaplain to Charles II, and a canon of Christ Church. South's sermons — witty, learned, and combative in defense of the established church — fill the many volumes of his Sermons Preached Upon Several Occasions, long admired as models of polished pulpit prose.

About this book

Volume II of Robert South's collected sermons presents the Restoration Anglican preacher in a series of discourses preached on public and pastoral occasions. South combines scriptural exposition, moral reasoning, and polished prose, addressing faith and conduct with wit as well as gravity. The volume shows why his sermons were long admired as models of English pulpit eloquence.
