Sermons Preached Upon Several Occasions. Vol. III.

Robert South (1634–1716) was an English Anglican clergyman famed for his preaching. Educated at Westminster and Oxford, he became public orator of the university, chaplain to Charles II, and a canon of Christ Church. South's sermons — witty, learned, and combative in defense of the established church — fill the many volumes of his Sermons Preached Upon Several Occasions, long admired as models of polished pulpit prose.

About this book

Volume III continues Robert South's sermons preached upon several occasions, gathering further discourses by the celebrated Restoration preacher and royal chaplain. South treats the duties and temptations of the Christian life with intellectual force, polished language, and a satirist's eye for folly. Readers will find in this volume the same union of reasoning, rhetoric, and moral seriousness found throughout the set.
