John Henry Jowett (1863–1923) was an English Congregational minister and one of the most admired preachers of his generation. He succeeded R. W. Dale at Carr's Lane, Birmingham, crossed the Atlantic to Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York (1911–1918), and closed his ministry at Westminster Chapel, London. Our library holds his devotional studies — Brooks by the Traveller's Way, The Friend on the Road, The School of Calvary — and The Passion for Souls.

John Henry Jowett's lectures on preaching, delivered at Yale in 1905, on the preacher's zeal for winning souls. Jowett argues that passion for people is born in the preacher's own communion with God, and he joins that fire to careful study and tender pastoral sympathy. A short, searching classic on the inner life required for fruitful ministry.
