The Friend on the Road and Other Studies in the Gospels

John Henry Jowett (1863–1923) was an English Congregational minister and one of the most admired preachers of his generation. He succeeded R. W. Dale at Carr's Lane, Birmingham, crossed the Atlantic to Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York (1911–1918), and closed his ministry at Westminster Chapel, London. Our library holds his devotional studies — Brooks by the Traveller's Way, The Friend on the Road, The School of Calvary — and The Passion for Souls.

About this book

A collection of short studies in the Gospels by J. H. Jowett, published in 1922. Taking its title from the risen Christ who drew near to the disciples on the Emmaus road, the book lingers over scenes and sayings from the life of Jesus. Each brief chapter turns a Gospel moment into quiet meditation and practical comfort for ordinary believers.
