Meditations on the Life and Passion of Our Lord

Meditations on the Life and Passion of Our Lord

Johannes Tauler (c. 1300–1361), usually called John Tauler in English, was a German Dominican friar and Rhineland mystic. Preaching in Strasbourg and Basel through years of plague, exile, and interdict, he taught ordinary Christians the inward way of surrender to God and dying to self. His sermons and spiritual letters circulated widely and later influenced Luther; our library holds his Sermons, Meditations on the Life and Passion of Our Lord, and The Inner Way.

About this book

Meditations on the life and sufferings of Christ attributed to John Tauler, the fourteenth-century German Dominican preacher. Following the Lord from His birth to His cross, the meditations invite the reader to dwell on each scene with gratitude and self-examination. They belong to the late-medieval devotion that taught Christians to meditate on the Passion as the school of love.
