Johannes Tauler (c. 1300–1361), usually called John Tauler in English, was a German Dominican friar and Rhineland mystic. Preaching in Strasbourg and Basel through years of plague, exile, and interdict, he taught ordinary Christians the inward way of surrender to God and dying to self. His sermons and spiritual letters circulated widely and later influenced Luther; our library holds his Sermons, Meditations on the Life and Passion of Our Lord, and The Inner Way.

Thirty-six sermons by Johannes Tauler, the fourteenth-century Dominican preacher of Strasbourg. Tauler calls hearers away from outward religion toward the inner way: detachment from created things, patient suffering, and the birth of God's word in the depths of the soul. Plain in manner and searching in application, these sermons remain a landmark of German medieval preaching.
