Richard Baxter (1615–1691) was an English Puritan church leader and theologian. His ministry at Kidderminster transformed a neglected parish town, and though ejected in 1662 he remained one of Nonconformity's most influential voices, writing well over a hundred books. Our library holds The Reformed Pastor — his classic on the minister's work — A Call to the Unconverted, The Saints' Everlasting Rest, and his extensive Practical Works.

Richard Baxter's classic manual for pastors, published in 1656 and grounded in the charge of Acts 20:28 to take heed to oneself and to all the flock. Baxter urges ministers to watch over their own hearts first, then to teach, visit, and catechize every household under their care. Few books have searched the conscience of pastors so deeply.
