George MacDonald (1824–1905) was a Scottish author, poet, and Congregational minister. Briefly a pastor, he turned to writing and lecturing, producing fairy tales and novels that pioneered modern fantasy and deeply influenced C. S. Lewis. His theology found its most direct expression in his sermons: our library holds his Unspoken Sermons in three series and The Hope of the Gospel, works of imaginative, searching Christian reflection.

The third and final series of George MacDonald's Unspoken Sermons, published in 1889. MacDonald returns to his great themes — the Father's love, obedience as the way into truth, and the slow schooling of the soul — in sermons written to be read and pondered rather than merely heard. A reflective close to a widely loved trilogy.
