Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible

Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible

Jamieson, Fausset and Brown were the three British scholars behind the Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible (1871), the one-volume commentary in our library. Robert Jamieson (1802–1880) was a Church of Scotland minister in Glasgow; Andrew Fausset (1821–1910) an Anglican clergyman at York; and David Brown (1803–1897) a Free Church professor at Aberdeen. Their combined work long served as a standard evangelical commentary.

About this book

The Jamieson-Fausset-Brown commentary, first published in 1871, covering the whole Bible in a single reference work. Three Scottish scholars — Robert Jamieson, A. R. Fausset, and David Brown — provided concise notes on every chapter, explaining the text, clearing difficulties, and drawing practical lessons. It has served pastors, teachers, and family readers as a standard help for well over a century.
