Sermons. Volume The Fourth.

Henry Edward Manning (1808–1892) was an English churchman who became Archbishop of Westminster and a cardinal. Converted to Rome in 1851 after the Gorham judgment shook his confidence in the Church of England, he led English Catholicism for a generation, championing papal infallibility at Vatican I and social causes at home. Our library carries several volumes of his Sermons and his Grounds of Faith lectures.

About this book

This fourth volume gathers sermons by Henry Edward Manning, the English churchman whose preaching joined doctrinal seriousness with close attention to the inner life. The sermons treat the duties, temptations, and consolations of Christian living, urging hearers toward repentance, faith, and steady obedience. Read together, they show the careful, searching style that marked Manning's work as a preacher.
