Sermons. Volume the Second.

Henry Edward Manning (1808–1892) was an English churchman who became Archbishop of Westminster and a cardinal. Converted to Rome in 1851 after the Gorham judgment shook his confidence in the Church of England, he led English Catholicism for a generation, championing papal infallibility at Vatican I and social causes at home. Our library carries several volumes of his Sermons and his Grounds of Faith lectures.

About this book

The second volume of Henry Edward Manning's collected sermons presents the English preacher addressing the ordinary trials and duties of the Christian life. Manning writes with gravity and precision, examining conscience, conduct, and devotion, and pressing his hearers toward sincere repentance and trust in God. The sermons reward slow reading by anyone who values searching, reflective preaching.
