Stepping Heavenward

Stepping Heavenward

Elizabeth Payson Prentiss (1818–1878) was an American author, the daughter of pastor Edward Payson and wife of Presbyterian minister George Lewis Prentiss. Out of a life marked by the deaths of two children, she wrote books prized for their honest piety, above all Stepping Heavenward (1869), a novel in diary form tracing a woman's growth in grace. Her hymn 'More Love to Thee, O Christ' is still sung.
