The Life and Death of Mr. Badman

The Life and Death of Mr. Badman

John Bunyan (1628–1688) was an English tinker turned Puritan preacher in Bedford. Largely self-educated, he was imprisoned for twelve years for preaching without a license, and it was in prison that he began The Pilgrim's Progress, published in 1678. His allegory, his spiritual autobiography Grace Abounding, and works such as The Holy War have made him one of the most read Christian authors in the world.

About this book

John Bunyan's companion piece to The Pilgrim's Progress, first published in 1680, tells the story of a persistently wicked man in dialogue form. As Mr. Wiseman recounts Mr. Badman's life and death to Mr. Attentive, Bunyan traces how a hardened conscience grows through deceit, profanity, and contempt for repeated warnings. It is a sober Puritan warning against a wasted life.
