George Edmundson (1848–1930) was an English clergyman and historian. A fellow and tutor of Brasenose College, Oxford, and Ford's Lecturer in English History, he later served as vicar of St Saviour's, Upper Chelsea. Though his reputation rested on Dutch and South American history, his Bampton Lectures for 1913, The Church in Rome in the First Century — the work in our library — argued for early dates for the New Testament writings and was praised again a generation later.

George Edmundson's history of the church at Rome during the first century, published in 1913. Edmundson reconstructs the beginnings of Roman Christianity, the visits and martyrdoms associated with Peter and Paul, and the congregation to which Paul wrote his greatest letter. The study gathers literary and archaeological evidence into a compact account of the church in the imperial capital.
