Edmond de Pressensé (1824–1891) was a French Protestant pastor and church historian. Trained at Lausanne under Alexandre Vinet, he became pastor of the Taitbout Chapel in Paris in 1847, founded the Revue chrétienne, and served in the National Assembly and as a senator for life. His history of the church's first three centuries appeared in English as The Early Years of Christianity (1869) — the work in our library — and his Jesus Christ was a noted answer to Renan.

A history of the church in the apostolic age by the French Protestant historian Edmond de Pressense, presented in English translation. Pressense narrates the founding of the church at Pentecost, the missions of the apostles, and the encounter of the gospel with Judaism and the Roman world. His warm, narrative style made the work a favorite nineteenth-century account of Christianity's beginnings.
