A Body of Practical Divinity

A Body of Practical Divinity

John Gill (1697–1771) was an English Particular Baptist pastor and theologian. Born at Kettering and largely self-taught in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, he pastored the Baptist congregation at Horsleydown, Southwark, for fifty-one years. Gill produced a verse-by-verse exposition of the whole Bible and a complete systematic theology — A Body of Doctrinal Divinity and A Body of Practical Divinity — and defended Calvinistic doctrine in The Cause of God and Truth.

About this book

The companion volume to John Gill's Body of Doctrinal Divinity, published in 1770. Here Gill turns from what Christians are to believe to how they are to live: worship, prayer, the ordinances, the ordering of the church, and the duties of the Christian life. Together the two volumes form one of the most complete systems produced by an English Baptist theologian.
