Jonathan Edwards (1703–1758) was an American Congregationalist preacher and theologian in colonial New England. Pastor at Northampton, Massachusetts, he was a leading voice of the Great Awakening — his sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is famous — and later a missionary to Native Americans at Stockbridge. Works such as Religious Affections and The Life of David Brainerd, and many of his sermons, fill our library.

Jonathan Edwards's treatise on the nature of true grace, left in manuscript at his death in 1758 and published after it. Edwards examines how the grace of God works in the soul, distinguishing genuine conversion from mere outward religion and from the common operations of the Spirit. A demanding but rewarding window into the mind of America's greatest theologian.
