Commentary on the Whole Bible Volume I (Genesis to Deuteronomy)

by Matthew Henry

Matthew Henry (1662–1714) was an English Nonconformist minister, pastor of a Presbyterian congregation in Chester. He is remembered for the work he began in 1704, his Exposition of the Old and New Testaments — a complete Bible commentary of warm, practical, quotable exposition. Henry finished the text through Acts; after his death, fellow ministers completed the remaining volumes from his notes. All six volumes are in our library.

About this book

Volume one of Matthew Henry's commentary on the Bible, covering Genesis through Deuteronomy. Henry reads the books of Moses with a pastor's eye, unfolding creation, covenant, Exodus, and the law in notes that are fresh, searching, and rich in practical application. Begun in 1704 and beloved ever since, his commentary aims not only to inform the head but to warm the heart.
