Demonstration of the Apostolic Preaching

Demonstration of the Apostolic Preaching

Irenaeus (c. 130–c. 202) was a Greek bishop of Lugdunum in Gaul — modern Lyons — and one of the most important Church Fathers of the second century. A hearer of Polycarp in his youth, he linked the church of his day directly to the apostles. His great work Against Heresies refuted Gnosticism, and our library holds his Demonstration of the Apostolic Preaching, a concise summary of the Christian faith.

About this book

A short handbook of the Christian faith by Irenaeus, bishop of Lyons in the second century, here in Robinson's 1920 English translation. Written around AD 190, it summarizes the preaching of the apostles and shows from the Old Testament how the promises were fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Recovered from an Armenian manuscript after being long lost, it opens a window into the teaching of the early church.
