Eirenicon: A Plea for Peace

Eirenicon: A Plea for Peace

Edward Bouverie Pusey (1800–1882) was an English Anglican cleric and Regius Professor of Hebrew at Oxford for over fifty years. After John Henry Newman's departure he became the leading figure of the Oxford Movement, pressing for a recovery of patristic and sacramental teaching in the Church of England. Our library holds his Eirenicon, a plea for peace among Christians, and his explanatory commentary on the Minor Prophets.

About this book

An appeal for the peace and unity of the church by Edward Bouverie Pusey, the Oxford Movement leader, published in 1865. Pusey explores the divisions among Christians and asks on what terms separated churches might be reconciled, writing with the learning and earnestness that marked his long career. It remains a notable document of nineteenth-century hopes for reunion.
