NPNF1-07. St. Augustine: Homilies on the Gospel of John; Homilies on the First Epistle of John; Soliloquies

Philip Schaff (1819–1893) was a Swiss-born church historian who taught at Mercersburg and later at Union Theological Seminary in New York. A bridge between German scholarship and the English-speaking church, he founded the American Society of Church History and edited vast reference works. Our library's Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers series — which he conceived and edited — together with his History of the Christian Church and Creeds of Christendom, came largely through his labors.

About this book

A volume of the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers series, edited by Philip Schaff, gathering Augustine's homilies on the Gospel of John and on the First Epistle of John, together with his early Soliloquies. The Johannine sermons trace Christ the Word through the fourth Gospel, while the Soliloquies record a young believer reasoning with his own soul about God and truth.
