NPNF2-06. Jerome: The Principal Works of St. Jerome

Philip Schaff (1819–1893) was a Swiss-born church historian who taught at Mercersburg and later at Union Theological Seminary in New York. A bridge between German scholarship and the English-speaking church, he founded the American Society of Church History and edited vast reference works. Our library's Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers series — which he conceived and edited — together with his History of the Christian Church and Creeds of Christendom, came largely through his labors.

About this book

A volume of the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers series, edited by Philip Schaff, presenting the principal works of Jerome. It gathers letters, treatises, and lives of hermits from the great scholar who gave the Latin church its Vulgate Bible. Jerome's learning is vast and his pen sharp; these writings show both the ascetic controversialist and the director of souls.
