Theodore Brown Hewitt (born 1881) was an American scholar of German who taught as assistant professor of German at Williams College. His Yale doctoral dissertation became Paul Gerhardt as a Hymn Writer and his Influence on English Hymnody (1918), the standard study of how Germany's greatest Lutheran hymn writer was translated and imitated in English. The book combines a life of Gerhardt with a history of English hymn writing.

A study of Paul Gerhardt, the great seventeenth-century Lutheran hymn writer, by Theodore Brown Hewitt, published in 1918. Hewitt surveys Gerhardt's life through war, bereavement, and pastoral conflict, and examines the hymns — among them 'O Sacred Head' in its German original and 'Commit Thy Way to God' — that made him Germany's beloved singer of trust in providence.
