Philosophy of Revelation

Herman Bavinck (1854–1921) was a Dutch Calvinist theologian. Pastor briefly at Franeker, he taught at the Kampen seminary and then succeeded Kuyper at the Free University of Amsterdam in 1902. His four-volume Reformed Dogmatics is the summit of Dutch neo-Calvinist theology — learned, catholic in spirit, and warmly devotional. Our library also carries his Philosophy of Revelation, The Certainty of Faith, The Sacrifice of Praise, and Magnalia Dei.

About this book

Herman Bavinck's lectures on the philosophy of revelation, published in Dutch in 1908 and widely read in English translation. Bavinck considers how God's revelation in nature, history, and Scripture relates to human knowledge, faith, and religious experience. A noted work of Reformed theology, it answers modern accounts of religion while keeping revelation itself at the center of Christian thought.
