Richard Chenevix Trench (1807–1886) was an Irish-born Anglican archbishop and poet. Dean of Westminster before becoming Archbishop of Dublin in 1864, he was also a pioneering student of the English language whose lectures On the Study of Words helped spark the Oxford English Dictionary project. Our library carries his commentary on The Epistles to the Seven Churches in Asia; his Synonyms of the New Testament remains a standard tool for careful Bible study.

Richard Chenevix Trench's study of the letters to the seven churches in Revelation 2–3, first published in 1861. Trench, a careful scholar of language, examines each letter's setting, commendations, reproofs, and promises, and draws lessons for churches in every age. The book combines sound learning with the conviction that Christ still inspects and addresses His churches.
