Paul Wilhelm Schmiedel (1851–1935) was a German theologian who held the chair of New Testament exegesis at the University of Zurich from 1893 to 1923. Trained at Jena under liberal teachers, he revised Winer's Greek grammar and contributed major articles to the Encyclopaedia Biblica. His Johannine Writings (English edition, 1908), the work in our library, examines the Gospel, Epistles, and Revelation of John with the tools of historical criticism.

Paul Schmiedel's critical studies of the writings attributed to John — the Gospel, the epistles, and related questions — published in English in 1908. Schmiedel examines authorship, composition, and historical value with the tools of modern biblical criticism.
