James Hudson Taylor (1832–1905) was an English missionary who founded the China Inland Mission in 1865. Sailing for China as a young medical missionary, he adopted Chinese dress, pressed the gospel into the interior provinces, and recruited hundreds of workers on the principle of trusting God for supplies without guaranteed salaries. His Retrospect and other writings remain classics of faith missions, and his burden shaped Protestant missions in China for generations.
