John Knox (c. 1514–1572) was the Scottish minister who led the Protestant Reformation in Scotland. Converted under George Wishart's influence, he preached in England and Geneva before returning in 1559 to help establish the Reformed Church of Scotland. Our library holds his Treatise on Prayer, his defiant First Blast of the Trumpet, and other tracts; his History of the Reformation in Scotland shaped the national memory of the movement.

A brief treatise by the Scottish Reformer John Knox on what prayer is and how God is to be approached in it. Knox grounds his counsel in Scripture, urging earnest, believing prayer in times of trouble and distinguishing prayer offered in faith from mere outward words. A compact specimen of Reformation pastoral writing at its most direct.
