Edward McKendree Bounds (1835–1913) was an American Methodist minister and author. A lawyer turned preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, he served as a Confederate chaplain during the Civil War and afterward pastored churches in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. Bounds rose at half past four each morning to pray, and nearly all his books — Power Through Prayer and eight more on prayer, most in our library — appeared after his death.

Part of E. M. Bounds's series on prayer, issued in 1920. Bounds explores why God has ordained prayer at all, and how human asking fits with divine sovereignty: God works through the prayers of His people. Earnest and uncompromising, it calls readers to take prayer seriously as God's appointed means, not as a religious formality to be observed and forgotten.
