Edward McKendree Bounds (1835–1913) was an American Methodist minister and author. A lawyer turned preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, he served as a Confederate chaplain during the Civil War and afterward pastored churches in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. Bounds rose at half past four each morning to pray, and nearly all his books — Power Through Prayer and eight more on prayer, most in our library — appeared after his death.

One of E. M. Bounds's best-known books on prayer, first published in 1910 and addressed especially to preachers. Bounds insists that the man must first be laid hold of by God before his ministry can carry weight, and that prayer, not method, is where spiritual power is found. Brief, intense, and searching, it has challenged ministers for over a century.
