Alexander Whyte (1836–1921) was a Scottish Free Church minister who preached at Free St George's, Edinburgh, for nearly fifty years and served as moderator of the General Assembly in 1898. His pulpit drew hearers from every class, and his published sermons and 'appreciations' range widely over Bunyan, Samuel Rutherford, Teresa of Avila, and Jacob Boehme. Four of his volumes, including Lord, Teach Us to Pray, are in our library.

A series of sermons on the disciples' request in Luke 11:1 by Alexander Whyte, the Edinburgh preacher known for his searching, imaginative style. Published in 1922, the sermons linger over the Lord's Prayer and the example of Christ's own prayer life. Whyte presses his hearers toward a deeper, more deliberate practice of prayer, learned at the feet of Jesus himself.
