Edward McKendree Bounds (1835–1913) was an American Methodist minister and author. A lawyer turned preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, he served as a Confederate chaplain during the Civil War and afterward pastored churches in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. Bounds rose at half past four each morning to pray, and nearly all his books — Power Through Prayer and eight more on prayer, most in our library — appeared after his death.

A collection of E. M. Bounds's writings on prayer, published in 1921, after his death. Bounds looks at prayer through the lives of praying men of Scripture and church history, showing how God has answered those who gave themselves to intercession. Like his other books, it argues that the church's great need is not new methods, but people who will actually pray.
