Jeanne-Marie Guyon (1648–1717), known as Madame Guyon, was a French Catholic writer on prayer and the interior life. Twice imprisoned for her teaching — including in the Bastille — she advocated a simple, passive surrender to God in prayer, most famously in A Short and Easy Method of Prayer. Her writings influenced readers across traditions, including John Wesley and the early Methodists, and remain widely read on contemplative prayer.
