Devotions of Bishop Andrewes, Vol. I

Devotions of Bishop Andrewes, Vol. I

Lancelot Andrewes (1555–1626) was an English bishop and scholar, successively Bishop of Chichester, Ely, and Winchester under James I. One of the translators who oversaw the King James Version, he was famed for learned, patristic preaching at court. Our library holds the first volume of his Devotions — private prayers drawn from Scripture and the ancient liturgies that remain a classic of Anglican prayer.

About this book

The private prayers of Lancelot Andrewes, bishop, scholar, and one of the translators of the King James Bible. Drawn from his own daily devotion in the early seventeenth century, this first volume gathers his morning and evening prayers, rich in Scripture, confession, and intercession. Generations of Christians have used them as a pattern for ordered, thoughtful, personal prayer.
