Discourse of the Nature of Regeneration

Discourse of the Nature of Regeneration

Stephen Charnock (1628–1680) was an English Puritan divine. Converted at Cambridge, he became a fellow of New College, Oxford, preached in Ireland and London, and after his ejection in 1662 later co-pastored a congregation in the city. Charnock is best known for his Discourses on the Existence and Attributes of God, a monument of Puritan theology; our library carries his discourses on regeneration and on the cleansing virtue of Christ's blood.

About this book

One of Stephen Charnock's posthumous discourses on regeneration, published in 1680. Charnock asks what the new birth actually is: a real change of nature wrought by God, in which the sinner receives a new heart and a new spiritual life. His treatment is precise and systematic, defining the doctrine before drawing out its uses.
