Expositions of Holy Scripture: Isaiah and Jeremiah

Alexander MacLaren (1826–1910) was a Scottish Baptist minister famed for expository preaching. After early pastorates he settled at Union Chapel, Manchester, for forty-five years, and twice served as president of the Baptist Union. MacLaren prepared his sermons with a scholar's care and delivered them with a poet's touch; the many volumes of his Expositions of Holy Scripture — whole-Bible preaching in print — form his monument in our library.

About this book

One volume of Alexander MacLaren's Expositions of Holy Scripture, gathering his expository sermons on Isaiah and Jeremiah. MacLaren spent his long ministry in Manchester, and these sermons show his gift for taking a passage apart, explaining it in order, and pressing it home to conscience and conduct. They remain valued helps for preachers and for any reader working steadily through this part of Scripture.
