History and Life of the Reverend Doctor John Tauler, with Twenty-Five of His Sermons

Susanna Winkworth (1820–1884) was an English translator and philanthropist, elder sister of the hymn translator Catherine Winkworth. Working to make German religious literature known in England, she translated Neander's church history and, most lastingly, the life and sermons of the medieval preacher Johann Tauler. Our library holds her History and Life of the Reverend Doctor John Tauler, with Twenty-Five of His Sermons (1857).

About this book

Susanna Winkworth's translation of the life of John Tauler, the fourteenth-century German preacher and mystic, published in 1857 together with twenty-five of his sermons. The biography draws on the traditional account of Tauler's conversion and ministry in Strasbourg, and the sermons that follow show his deep teaching on humility, suffering, and union with God.
