John Tulloch's account of Martin Luther and the leading figures of the Protestant Reformation, published in 1883. Tulloch traces the movement from its beginnings in Germany through the work of the reformers who carried it across Europe. The result is a readable nineteenth-century introduction to the men, convictions, and conflicts that reshaped the Western church.
