St. Paul the Traveller and the Roman Citizen

Sir William Mitchell Ramsay (1851–1939) was a Scottish archaeologist and New Testament scholar, the leading authority of his day on the history of Asia Minor. Trained in the sceptical Tübingen school, his years of excavation and travel in Turkey convinced him of the historical accuracy of Luke's writings. Our library holds St Paul the Traveller and the Roman Citizen, The Letters to the Seven Churches of Asia, and Was Christ Born in Bethlehem?

About this book

William M. Ramsay's celebrated study of Paul's journeys and of Luke as a historian, published in 1895. Drawing on his travels and archaeological research in Asia Minor, Ramsay follows Paul's movements city by city and argues that the Book of Acts is history of the first rank. The book helped restore scholarly confidence in the New Testament's historical framework.
