Was Christ Born in Bethlehem?

Sir William Mitchell Ramsay (1851–1939) was a Scottish archaeologist and New Testament scholar, the leading authority of his day on the history of Asia Minor. Trained in the sceptical Tübingen school, his years of excavation and travel in Turkey convinced him of the historical accuracy of Luke's writings. Our library holds St Paul the Traveller and the Roman Citizen, The Letters to the Seven Churches of Asia, and Was Christ Born in Bethlehem?

About this book

An archaeological defense of Luke's account of the census of Quirinius, published in 1898 by the archaeologist William M. Ramsay. Ramsay examines inscriptions and Roman practice to argue that the nativity narrative of Luke 2 fits the historical evidence. A classic of historical apologetics from the archaeologist whose fieldwork led him to trust Luke as a careful historian.
